Police in the New Zealand city of Christchurch are responding to an active shooter situation at two mosques. Local media report multiple casualties, but nothing has yet been confirmed by police.
On Friday afternoon local time, New Zealand police reported they were responding to “reports of shots fired” in the central part of the city and advised citizens to stay indoors.
Friday is the Muslim holy day, when many practicing Muslims attend worship services at mosques.

An eyewitness inside the Al Noor Mosque told RNZ that he saw at least four people lying on the ground and that “there was blood everywhere.” Local media is reporting multiple casualties, including six people dead, but police have not confirmed any casualty numbers
